“But the Lord takes pleasure in those who fear him, in those who hope in his steadfast love” Psalm 147:11
Our God is an almighty and sovereign God. In the preceding verses of this Psalm, the psalmist describes the amazing works of the Lord; from him building up Jerusalem, to him setting the stars in place. How then can we respond to a God who created the world and yet cares to call us his own? The Psalmist says the Lord does not take pleasure in the “strength of the horse, nor his pleasure in the legs of man” rather in “those who fear him, in those who hope in his steadfast love”. The Lord delights not in human strength and labour but takes pleasure in his people acknowledging his power and resting in his love. As his people, even in such uncertain times, will we continue to acknowledge the Lord in all things-the good and the bad, praising him through each circumstance, trusting in his love that has never failed and will never fail? We do this so that he might delight in us.
I pray that in the coming weeks that will surely be tough for everyone that we will see God and worship him in everything, whether it’s the rain, changes in regulations, the moments we get to share with our friends, or the times we spend in quiet before Him. May we also take comfort in his promises of hope, always being thankful for the privilege of being his children, and use any opportunities he gives us to share this hope that will never fail with those around us.
